A Horse Named Whiskey

Rising Hearts Ranch was founded in 2008 following the rescue of  our first horse,
Whiskey.  Whiskey had been neglected and abused. For nearly a month, she had been
locked in a stall, standing in her own manure. She was underfed to the point that her
ribs showed through her unkempt coat.  On the day of her rescue, Lauren with the help
of her daughter, Zoe and several of Zoe’s friends, changed Whiskey’s name to Bella.

While nursing Bella back to health, Lauren also began to experience her own healing
from the recent loss of her mother.  Soon after the rescue of Bella, Lauren heard a call
from God to begin a ministry to create a sanctuary for rescued horses and for people
of all ages that would promote healing in a safe and peaceful environment.

What Lauren didn’t realize at the time was that God was using this horse name
Whiskey to begin Lauren’s own journey of recovery and healing.  She had been using
alcohol for some time to fill the empty places in her heart and to ease the pain in her
life.  How creative our Creator is!

In January 2009, through the help of Celebrate Recovery, a Christ Centered 12 Step
program she began her path to freedom from her addiction and the healing of her
hurts.

So she could become better equipped to help others down the path of freedom and
clarity of God’s purpose for their lives, Lauren became a Certified Life Coach and a
Certified Addiction Coach.  To learn more about the programs offered at Rising Hearts

He has sent me to tell all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes,

a joyous blessing instead of mourning,
 festive praise instead of despair.
  In their
righteousness, they will be like great oaks
that the Lord has planted for
is own glory.  Isaiah 61:2-4
